Belfast Harbour have invested in the redevelopment of the port's Victoria Terminal 2 (VT2), which is where Stena will operate their next generation E-Flexer ships between the city and Liverpool. Main contractor Graham who have built the facility awarded the contract to conduct full-scale load testing of the bollards to Bollard Proof.
As if conducting in excess of 100 tonne inclined pull tests on the new remote flexible dolphins wasn’t challenging enough, our team had to contend with some extreme weather courtesy of Storm Ciara. Despite interruptions due to snow, rain and severe gales which caused major disruption around the country, Bollard Proof were nevertheless able to complete the test programme during lulls in the storm.
The testing proved once again that Bollard Proof’s rig is the only test that can truly simulate actual loads generated by ships mooring ropes.
